How We Measure

Our launch monitors use a combination of infrared object-tracking and high-speed, high-resolution camera-based technology to precisely measure every aspect of club head and ball launch performance.

By capturing thousands of images per second, building a virtual 3D model, and then analysing a multitude of data components, our technology is able to create the most accurate and complete picture of your ball and club head performance – and deliver the results in real-time.

Camera Based Technology

Our GC launch monitors use exact photometric measurements taken with a clear, direct view of the impact window.

Our launch monitors measure club head data by directly imaging the club face. This provides far more reliable and accurate data than systems which are positioned behind the golfer and have no direct view of the club face.

Launch-angle

Launch angle

The vertical start direction of the golf ball, relative tothe ground plane, measured in degrees.

Side-Angle

Side Angle

The horizontal start direction of the golf ball, relative to the target line, measured in degrees. Often referred to as push/pull. A ball starting right of target is shown as a positive number, a ball starting as a negative number

Ball-speed

Ball speed

The measurement of the ball speed immediately after impact.

Total-splin

Total splin

The total number of revolutions of the golf ball, about the spin-Axis, measured in RPM (revolutions per minute).

Spin-tolt-axis.

Spin-tolt axis.

the angle of the axis that the ball spins around. This angle will create curvature – similar to how an aeroplane by tilting its wings.

Club-path

Club path

The horizontal direction the golf club is travelling immediately prior to impact, relative to the target line, measured in degrees. A positive number shows the club was travelling to the right of the target line, a negative number shows the club was travelling to the left of the target line.

Face-angle-at-impact

Face angle at impact

The measurement of the club head’s face plane position square to either the path or the target line.

Lie-angle-at-impact

Lie angle at impact.

The angle of the club’s sole immediately prior to impact, relative to the ground plane, measured from the centre toe and heel fiducials, displayed in degrees. A negative number means the club is “toe down” at impact, while a positive number means the club is “toe up.”

Loft at impact

Loft at impact.

The measurement in degrees of the club head’s face plane position vertically relative to the ground plane.

Closure-rate

Closure rate.

The three dimensional ‘closing’ of the club face immediately prior to impact, encompassing change in loft, lie and face angle, measured in degrees per second.

Club-speed

Club speed.

The speed the golf is traveling immediately prior to impact.

Impact-point

Impact point

The precise measurement of the contact point of the golf ball on the club face, relative to the face centre, as determined by the fiducial pacement.

Angle-of-attack

Angle of attack

The vertical direction the golf club is travelling immediately prior to impact, relative to the ground plane, measured in degrees. A positive number is known as ‘hitting up’ on the ball and a negative number is known as ‘hitting down’ on the ball.
